Tucked under the cliffs and residential areas just north of the Montage Resort, this scenic beach is the best small beach in Laguna. A Local’s Treasure What makes Goff Cove a truly special beach is its nice, small size. Unlike the more popular beaches nearby, Goff Cove feels like a well-kept secret, where locals come to relax and unwind (like me). The cove is small and hidden, which means fewer crowds. It’s also a favorite spot for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike, offering a beautiful environment to soak up the sun and watch the waves come and go. When you arrive, you’ll notice the breathtaking views framed by the rugged cliffs. Access to the beach is down a wooden staircase only a short walk from the Montage Laguna Resort. The waves crashing against the rocks creates a calming soundtrack, making it easy to forget the stresses of everyday life. And while the beach may be small, it offers a diverse range of activities—from sunbathing and swimming to tide pooling, diving or snorkeling. Know Before You Go: Tides Matter One crucial aspect to consider when planning your visit to Goff Cove is the tides. The beach’s size means that it can be significantly affected by the ebb and flow of the ocean. At high tide, the beach can nearly disappear, leaving little room for sunbathers. On the flip side, during low tide, the cove expands, revealing stunning tide pools that are fun for both kids and adults. Before heading out, it’s wise to check the local tide charts. Generally, the best times to visit are during low tide when the beach is more accessible, and more rocks and small tidepools are revealed. I have also seen sea lions sunning on the rocks here, as well as dolphins off the shore. The Perfect Spot for Relaxation Once you’ve timed your visit just right, grab a towel and settle in. You’ll likely find yourself surrounded by friendly locals, many of whom return to Goff Cove time and time again (you might see me there - I go to Goff’s at least once a week). Sometimes my family will grab a pizza and head there for a sunset snack. As a long-time dog owner, I used to walk my sweet Misty along Laguna’s beaches almost daily. We had our regular route, regular crew, and regular smiles. It was our happy place. But yesterday, my husband and I were soaking up the sun at Main Beach when we spotted a couple walking their large shepherd along the shoreline in the heat of a summer afternoon. The beach was packed. Kids running, frisbees flying, waves crashing. While the dog was on a short leash, it looked stressed, and so did the people trying to dodge around it. The waves break hard on the shore at this beach, and on rougher days only very competent swimmers should swim here. 3. As the sun sets, gather your friends or family around one of the beach’s firepits for a memorable night of s’mores and seaside relaxation. The firepits are available for rent through The Lost Pier Café , which is run by The Ranch, a golf resort hotel across the street from Aliso Creek Beach. Once reserved online, you don’t need to do anything but show up at your reserved time, ready for an amazing evening.  When you arrive, the firepit will already be set up and comes with everything you need to enjoy a warm, crackling fire. Add the s’mores kit to your firepit reservation so you won’t have anything you need to bring. They supply the firepit, the s’mores fixings, and nice lounge chairs to sit back in. A Personal Connection to the Mission As a young student, I visited the Mission on countless school field trips. Walking through its storied grounds, I learned about California’s history and the early days of Spanish missions. My sister lived in San Juan Capistrano, so over the years, I’ve passed the Mission countless times and even brought visitors there for quick cultural trips. The Mission holds a special place in my heart because my husband and I were married there. Our wedding photos under the Mission’s iconic arches are some of my most treasured memories. Now, during Capistrano Lights, we love to recreate those photos, even though we laugh about how much younger we looked back then! When I grew up in Laguna, my mom told me the same thing, and now, I tell my own children to plop next to the Lifeguard Tower. Four generations of my family have been enjoying Main Beach next to that Tower, and every time I see it I smile.  Beyond its practical use, the Lifeguard Tower holds a special place in the hearts of many Laguna Beach residents. One of my favorite things to do in Laguna is my annual visit to the Sawdust Art Festival . For 58 years, the Sawdust Festival has been a main fixture of Laguna Beach art culture. Located in Laguna Canyon, tucked between the Art-A-Fair and the Boys and Girls Club, Laguna Beach artists showcase their amazing talent and skills at this relaxed, friendly, western-themed festival of art. Laguna has long been known for its art. The Festival of Art and Pageant of the Masters have drawn art enthusiasts for decades. What makes the Sawdust Festival different is its mandate to showcase local artists’ work. It is not a juried show, and all exhibitors who apply for the summer festival must be residents of Laguna Beach. That makes it so special - I felt like I was surrounded by my talented neighbors, and I was! When I was a girl growing up in Laguna , I admit I didn’t understand and appreciate the artwork that the Sawdust Festival showcased. The Sawdust was where my friends had summer jobs, and where I would meet up with them during a break from my job on Forest Avenue. The Sawdust was a fun place to hang out, but I didn’t really look at the jewelry, photography, textiles and painting. Now I have a huge appreciation for art and am always blown away by the skill and creativity in Laguna. There are more than 180 artists, three stages with live music, food and drink, free art classes, studios, demos and shows. The Sawdust Festival is always a great time! Amazing Artists at the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach The artists at the Sawdust Festival are so friendly and take the time to discuss their work with contemporaries and non-artists, like myself. It makes me feel like I am in a beautiful outdoor museum with the added benefit of having the artist right next to me, telling me the backstory of a piece, as well as how and why it came about.  I’m always drawn to seaside paintings and particularly liked the work of Carole Boller . Carole is a delightful person, and was thrilled to talk about her beautiful pieces. I was envisioning a whole wall of her work in my tiny Laguna apartment. Another amazing artist is David Kizziar . I was drawn into his booth because we saw a piece with the bells of Mission San Juan Capistrano. My wedding took place there, so we are always looking for art of the mission. David’s techniques of using pencil, ink, oil and more for his highly-detailed pieces is so unique and beautiful. Along with the Sawdust Art Festival, he also exhibits at the Festival of Arts. I was in the presence of a true master artist as he explained his work. Thrilling. My husband bought a great Laguna Beach themed shirt from Debra Covern . She designs and sells textiles and jewelry. The artwork on the shirt is her own. She is so friendly! I think we are going back to buy her San Clemente shirt.  We were amazed by the terrific photography by Paul Renner . His photos of African wildlife and scenery are probably the best wildlife photography I have ever seen. His booth at the Sawdust Festival makes it seem like we’re taking a walk on the African savanna, with lions and elephants ready to come around the corner.  Our time at the Sawdust Festival was drawing to a close, but we came upon a bright and fun small booth with a splendid artist in booth 106. Robert Holton  specializes in vibrant pop-art drizzle painting for his one-of-a-kind pieces. He has worked with a great number of high-profile clients and is very successful while also supportive of other local artists and talent. I enjoyed talking with him, and thought again how lucky we are to have the chance to meet and talk with such wonderfully skilled Laguna Beach artists at the Sawdust Art Festival.  Winter Fantasy The summer Sawdust Art Festival runs through August 31st, and opens every day at 11am. But there’s more! The Winter Fantasy  at the Sawdust runs for five weekends in November and December. I’m already looking forward to the amazing art and crafts, talent and good cheer.  Conclusion I’m a proud Laguna native, and cannot stress enough how great I feel having the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach. It is a true fixture of our artistic heritage and shows the talent, passion, and skills of the amazing artists of our town.

I’ve walked past the Wine Gallery in Laguna Beach countless times during my long walks along Pacific Coast Highway. For my husband's birthday, I finally decided it was time to step inside. Gary loves wine, and I wanted something new but special. I’m always ready to discover another of Laguna’s hidden gems , and wasn’t disappointed. My husband, Gary, enjoying his birthday at the Wine Gallery in Laguna Beach. First Impressions of Wine Gallery Woodfire Kitchen & Wine Bar We chose to sit indoors, even though there’s a charming outdoor patio. The interior was warm, inviting, and perfectly laid out. One spacious room wraps around a central bar with high and low tables throughout. Wine bottles line an entire wall, creating a relaxed but elegant vibe. We sat at a table along that display, soaking in the ambiance. The lighting was soft, the chatter pleasant, and the energy just right for a quiet but celebratory evening. Wine for the Win Of course, we ordered wine. Gary chose a Malbec and I sipped on a crisp Pinot Grigio. Both came from wineries we hadn’t tried before. Our table sat right in front of the wall of wine that always caught my eye from the street. It turns out the display isn’t just for show. It’s fully functional. At one point, I even helped the waitress grab a bottle from behind me. It made us feel like part of the scene at the Wine   Gallery in Laguna Beach. The vibe was casual, but the wine list was serious. There were selections for every palate and price point, which I really appreciated. Small Plates and Big Flavor We decided to graze instead of ordering full entrees. The Frites with Three Dips were perfect alongside the Oven Roasted Meatballs. We also added the Crunchy Kale Salad to balance things out. Every dish was flavorful and easy to share. Our son joined us after his track meet and ordered the Margherita Pizza. He devoured the whole thing! When I return, I’ll order the Oven Roasted Meatballs just for myself. They were that good! I highly recommend them to anyone visiting the Wine   Gallery in Laguna Beach . Service That Feels Like Home Our server, Leila, was warm, professional, and helpful with suggestions. When she found out it was Gary’s birthday, she arranged a surprise dessert. The entire staff, from the hostess to the bartender, was friendly and attentive. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there, which made the whole night feel easy and relaxed. It is the kind of place where service enhances the experience. It felt like celebrating at a new neighborhood favorite, because that’s exactly what it is. We’ll Be Back The Wine Gallery in Laguna Beach is close enough for us to walk to, which makes it even more appealing. After our first visit, I’m sure it’s going to become one of our local favorites. It’s casual, cozy, and full of thoughtful touches that make a night out feel special. If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend giving it a try.
