What to Do in Laguna Beach on a Rainy Day (Local’s Guide)

If you’re looking for things to do in Laguna Beach on a rainy day, there are actually more options than you might expect.

Rain in Laguna Beach doesn’t happen often. But when it does, it brings a slower, moodier side of town that most visitors never see. As a Laguna local, I actually love these grey days. The crowds disappear, the ocean turns dramatic, and it becomes the perfect time to explore a different side of this coastal town.

Things to Do in Laguna Beach on a Rainy Day

Warm Up at a Cozy Café

Rainy mornings were made for slow coffee.

A few favorites:

  • Urth Caffé (great for people watching)

  • Jedidiah Coffee (quiet, tucked-away feel)

  • Laguna Coffee Company (local favorite)

Order something warm, grab a window seat, and just watch the rain drizzle down over Pacific Coast Highway.

Explore the Local Art Scene

Laguna Beach is an art town at its core. Rainy days are the best time to experience it.

Don’t miss:

  • Laguna Art Museum

  • The small galleries along Pacific Coast Highway

  • Hidden artist studios throughout town (Check out Gallery Row just north of Main Beach, as well as studios in the Hip District).

You can easily spend hours wandering indoors, discovering new artists.

The views are striking from Heisler Park on a stormy day.

Stroll Forest Avenue and other local shopping areas (Yes, Even in the Rain)

Rain actually makes downtown Laguna feel more intimate.

Pop into:

  • Boutique shops

  • Laguna Beach Books - Laguna's own independent book store and a local favorite.

  • Local galleries

And enjoy the rare quiet. You’ll feel like you have the town to yourself.

Long Lunch or Early Dinner

This is your excuse to slow down.

Look for:

  • Ocean-view restaurants (the waves are dramatic in the rain)

  • Cozy interiors with a warm atmosphere (I love The Drake for its cozy interior and amazing live music)

  • Wine bars for a relaxed afternoon

Rainy days turn a simple meal into an experience.

Watch the Ocean (It’s Completely Different)

This might be my favorite rainy day activity.

The ocean feels more powerful, the colors deepen, and the beaches empty out. Walk along Heisler Park or stop near Main Beach for a quick view between showers.

Even five minutes outside is worth it.

Slow Down at Your Hotel or Spa

If you’re staying overnight, lean into it. You paid for it, so make sure you use every part of it! You deserve to be pampered on your vacation!

  • Read by the window

  • Take a long bath

  • Book a spa treatment

Rainy days in Laguna are perfect for doing… less.

Take Advantage of a Rainy Day in Laguna Beach

A rainy day in Laguna Beach isn’t a setback. It's a completely different experience.

It’s quieter. Slower. More local.

And honestly? It might just be one of the best ways to see this town.

Don't worry! Stormy days in Laguna always create the best sunset views.
