The Taco Stand

The Taco Stand is one of the most popular spots in Laguna Beach for a reason. Located on the corner of Cleo and Pacific Coast Highway, it sits where the seventh-ever Taco Bell once stood. When I was growing up, there were not many fast food options in town, and Taco Bell was a favorite among local teens. Today, I love that this location still serves tacos, but now with fresh, made-to-order flavors that are even better.

My own teenage son stops by The Taco Stand at least once a week, and I find myself there often too. The tacos are incredible, and you can watch the entire process unfold right in front of you. Fresh tortillas are pressed and grilled, and the meat is cooked to perfection as you wait. Whether you go for classic carne asada, flavorful al pastor, or a veggie option, every bite is delicious.

The Taco Stand is always busy, filled with both locals and visitors who know good food. Even though there is sometimes a wait, it is always worth it. It sits in the same village neighborhood as popular shopping streets like Forest Avenue and Broadway. The location makes it perfect for grabbing a bite before or after exploring town.

The atmosphere at Rasta Taco is as colorful as its name suggests. With a relaxed, reggae-inspired vibe, it feels like a little slice of the tropics right in Laguna Beach. The outdoor seating is simple but inviting, creating a great place to enjoy a casual meal. Whether you are dining in or grabbing food to go, the experience is always enjoyable.

Their tacos are packed with flavor and made with fresh ingredients. There are plenty of options, from classic meats to tasty vegetarian choices. Everything is easy to take on the go, making it perfect for carrying back to the beach. A favorite among locals and visitors alike, Rasta Taco is convenient, delicious, and always a good time.

Papa’s Tacos

Papa’s Tacos was my biggest surprise. Located on Pacific Coast Highway in South Laguna, it is a place I have seen countless times. I must have driven past it more than a thousand times, always thinking, “I need to stop there for a taco.” When I finally did, I wondered why I had waited so long.

This small, no-frills spot has a walk-up window where the scent of sizzling Mexican food fills the air. There are a couple of picnic tables, but most people take their food to go. It is a great stop before heading to South Laguna’s beautiful beaches. Camel Point, West Street Beach, and Thousand Steps are all close by.

When I went with my brother, we both ordered the street tacos and loved them. They were affordable, packed with flavor, and just the right size—we each had two. After I told my husband about our great experience, he went back the same day to try them himself. Now, Papa’s Tacos is our new go-to when driving through South Laguna, and since it is not far from home, we will be back often.

La Sirena Grill

La Sirena is a popular Mexican restaurant with two locations in Laguna Beach. The original spot is tucked away on Mermaid Street downtown, while the larger one sits in the Aliso Creek Shopping Center, across the street from Treasure Island Beach. Both locations serve up delicious tacos and fresh Mexican food, but the Aliso Creek spot offers alcoholic drinks, including their amazing signature margaritas. No matter which location you visit, you will find a good mix of locals and tourists enjoying the food.

La Sirena is known for its environmentally conscious mission, which is reflected in everything from its ingredients to its packaging. The prices are reasonable, making it a great choice for a casual meal. The downtown location is cozy and convenient, though parking in the summer can be tricky. Luckily, there is a city lot less than a block away.

The Aliso Creek location, across from the Montage Resort, offers a more spacious setting with both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is much easier here, making it a great choice for a relaxed meal. Whether you stop by for a quick taco or a margarita with friends, La Sirena never disappoints.

The Beachcomber

The Beachcomber at Crystal Cove, while not officially in Laguna Beach, is still one of my favorite places for a great taco. Nestled in Crystal Cove State Park, it sits right on the sand among the historic cottages, many of which have been beautifully restored. The setting alone makes it a special place, but the food is just as memorable. Every time I go, I order the shrimp taco plate, and it never disappoints.

Unlike most of the other taco spots on this list, The Beachcomber offers a full sit-down dining experience. It is pricier, but you are paying for more than just the food. You are paying for an oceanfront meal with an unbeatable view. I have seen dolphins while eating there, which makes the experience even more magical. The tidepools are nearby, and a walk along the beach is the perfect way to pass the time if there is a wait.

Since parking is atop the bluff in the Crystal Cove State Park lot, this is not a quick drop-in spot. It is best to plan ahead, but it is always worth the effort. If you do make your way to The Beachcomber, do yourself a favor and order the shrimp tacos—you will not regret it.
